Euthanasia

Providing compassionate care during a difficult time.

The decision to have your beloved pet euthanized is never an easy one to make. At Hôpital vétérinaire Taschereau, we take time to support you throughout this difficult process so that we can make sure it is the best option for the well-being of your companion.

What happens during euthanasia?

First, we place your cat or dog comfortably in the room reserved for euthanasia. Then, we give them a first injection of a sedative to make them feel calm and safe. Finally, we inject a second sedative, the euthanasia agent. This will put them in a deep sleep before causing their heart to slow down and then stop beating. Under no circumstances will your pet feel any pain. Your companion will pass away peacefully. The procedure only lasts a few minutes in total, and you will be able to take all the time you need to say goodbye.

Can I stay with my pet during euthanasia?

If you wish, your family members and you can be at your pet’s side during the final moments. Your presence will reassure them. If you do not have the strength to do so, a member of our team will be able to stay with your pet until the very end. No matter your decision, you will have time to say your last goodbyes and spend a final moment together.
